S.Africa SABS Certification
Applicable Products:
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) was founded 75 years ago, September 1945. At the time, the massive post-war rebuilding effort by the major powers was undertaken with growing recognition of the need to manufacture products to a common and agreed set of standards. Standardisation facilitated and enhanced international trade, offering objective benchmarks to ensure minimum safety and performance integrity of products, and improve applicability across a range of national markets.
SABS was established as South Africa's national standardisation body and was soon playing a valuable role in the country's development.
SABS is a statutory body that was established in terms of the Standards Act, 1945 (Act No. 24 of 1945) and continues to operate in terms of the latest edition of the Standards Act, 2008 (Act No. 8 of 2008) as the national standardisation institution in South Africa, mandated to:
1.Develop, promote and maintain South African National Standards (SANS)
2.Promote quality in connection with commodities, products and services
3.Render conformity assessment services and assist in matters connected therewith.
Introduction:
SABS is a leading business services provider to organizations worldwide, offering a range of services for management system certification, product testing and certification, and standardization.
This includes the standardization in the field of manufacturing, conversion and testing of Electronics & Appliances, including all aspects of their effects on man and his environment relating to activities in the following fields: lamps and related equipment, safety of electrical appliances and electronic equipment, measurement of light and radiation, interior environment and lighting design, lighting and signalling for transport, electrical accessories, safety of hand-held motor-operated electric tools, electrical equipment in medical practice and a lot more.
The diverse nature of our services allows us to customise our product offering so that service delivery can be enhanced and our comprehensive nature of testing services supports our clients' drive for quality and safety assurance and, ultimately, certification of such assurance systems.
Growing environmental awareness and the increasing awareness of quality implies the need for standardized requirements and test methods.
The Electronics & Appliance laboratories offer testing on all consumer and household electrical products for both SABS product certification and National Regulatory requirements and includes testing of EMI (electromagnetic interference), EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), environmental (Climatic, Vibration, Bump, Drop, Shock, Salt, Dust and Combustible Gas Detectors) and safety testing of household electrical appliances (and related equipment) and IT equipment.
In addition we offer accredited testing to CISPR 11/12/13/14/15/22IESO/IEC and ETSI standards for equipment required to comply with EMI/EMC requirements. The laboratory is also able to test telecommunication equipment requiring certification to ICASA fixed line requirements and 2 way radios according to ETSI300086 and ETSI30022022 standards. We also process applications for technical report evaluations or declarations, required for RSA Regulatory compliance for tests carried out in local and international laboratories. We pride ourselves on facilities that are accredited by SANAS locally and the IECCB scheme internationally.
